Toyota Corolla 1996 and 1997, both have engine check lights?
I have 2 Toyota Corolla 1996 and 1997, both of my cars have engine check lights on most of the time, but after a while (few Days) it?s gone. How should I find what?s wrong with them? What should I do to fix them without taking them in the shop? I am an Auto Mechanic my self, but have done most of the work on cars with carburetor, and do not have enough knowledge of fuel injections.

Answers:

jay is mad at me:  Check the fuel cap and the evaporative emmision system, valves and/or solenoids.

stealthtrader5000:  My dad had this problem with his 98 corolla. He changed evaporative canister twice, change gas cap, and blew out the line(?), this all at dealer. I have a Nissan and have a mechanic that has many years experience with Toyota and Nissan. He worked at dealerships for both makes before starting his own shop. He told my dad that the sensors are made to sensitive for these particular models and to keep driving it. 160,000 miles later and still runs like sewing machine, light goes on sometimes and off.

R1volta:  If you have an Auto Zone go there and they will scan the codes for free.
