Auto repair question?
Every time I go over a bump I hear a clang noise in the back of my car. Could it be that my shocks are out? How much does shock/strut replacement usually cost.
Answers:
stupid.liberals: How about your muffler? Maybe one of the brackets is broken.

walkerman5000: The cost will depend on whether your car is equipped with shocks or struts. It doesn't have both. Shocks are relatively inexpensive and can be replaced by a novice mechanic. Struts are more expensive and can require special tools. Does your car 'bounce' or 'bottom out' while you're driving? If so, you have a problem. Take it to a reputable mechanic and ask for a free estimate. Are you sure there's not just something loose in your trunk, like your jack for example, clanging around?

whoknew: First, make sure your spare tire - and anything else in your trunk - is securely fastened.
Push down on the rear fender; if the car comes back up and stops, the shocks are OK, if it goes up and down, find a good mech.
Last time I did that stuff it was $100 a pair at a cut-rate local shop. Good luck.
