hit my car, should repair or get cash?
Someone hit my car and he admits responsibility. He wanted to pay me with cash instead of going through insurance. But the bill is 1,700 to repair and now he wants me to go to his autoshop for an esitmate. When I get there, the mechanic who is is brother in law said he will fix the car and get it back to me in a few days. I was surprised since I thought I was just getting an estimate. So I am thinking. Should I just have them fix the car. The guy who hit me seems honest since he could have just left the scene. He is also my neighbor but doesn't live very close. I want to give him a break by lowering his cost to repair my car but I am worried about
1) his repair shop doing a bad job,
2) needing to rent a car and charging him for it later if the job is not done in time
3) Hidden damage like my radiator which you can't tell needs replacing until you pull the bumper off.
Please help.

Scott: How old is your car? How many miles?
What make/model?
It is usually easy to see most of the damage from
an accident.
You can email me photos and I can figure most of whats wrong from them.

tammy s: see how much its gonna cost you out of your pocket to get it fixed if its not to much and you think you can come up with the money or someone to do it cheap take the cash .But if someone hits you in that spot again they wont cover it.

calnickel: Go to another shop. Make sure it has a warrenty on the work. Hidden damage can be present in any collision and somebody's relation isn't going to do anything about it if he doesn't think you will notice. Also professional shops have better turn around time, better equipment, and courtesy cars.
Also having the other guy pay a stiff price will be a deterrent to him driving badly again.

*Balanced*Sweetheart*Always*: How well do you know this guy? Though, it doesn't really matter anyhow, because this just screams like a scam to me! There is a reason for the insurance. They will take care of you. Yeah, sometimes the insurance people do some shady things, but I'd still go with them, than with this guy! Just be aware and be careful and good luck. I trust that whatever you do, it will be the right thing.
