Would Toyota Camry 99 (96k) be reliable after a big repair work ($5,000) due to rear hit?
My Toyota Camry 99 (96k miles) got a rear hit: trunk is smashed, bumper went down on the backsides, but it runs OK. Insurance is ready to pay $5,000 for repair. However, there was only the street evaluation, and we don?t know what is damaged inside the car. Can we suppose that the car would be reliable after the repair? Is there sense to do such big work for the old car?

There wouldnt really be any major damage, i mean ur trunk, ur bumper, maybe a little bit or ur back seat if the hit went that far in. Your rear lights, maybe ur exhaust pipe. Make sure that if your exhaust pipe was damaged, that u check that it is repaired properly. As if there is a hole or some bends, it can make some noises while accelerating, but it doesnt effect performance. BUt these are easily repairable. If you were hit in the front and ur engine damaged, then for sure I would recommend to dispose of it quickly ALthough, what happens in accidents, is that people tend to use this opportunity to buy a new one, or better one. So its up to u.

abenezer scrooge:  the way you describe it, the car is probably OK, but since it is an old car, and you get a nice chunk of money, why not sell the car as is, and buy yourself a newer model used cars, for instance I bought already several cars from hearst rental, and eventhough they are high milage, I am very happy with them.
