Would a 1986 Toyota Corolla be considered a Trueno?
I want a Toyota Sprinter Trueno to show off to my friends. But they are so rare that I decided to maybe get the 1986 Toyota Corolla, something that looks like it. Maybe I can super-glue the words "Trueno" on the front too....Will I still get the same or near the performance of a Toyota Sprinter Trueno?

Performance is subjective, the best motor of the period was the 1600cc 16valve DOHC injected. Easy transplant anyway, if u choose to go that route. Has to be RWD tho - if u want the street cred from an old school Corolla. The Celica from 82 is also terrific, see if u can find one to check out. Here is Google images of them.http://images.google.co.nz/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=celica+1984 Check this auction site for parts for Truenos from NZ - where we once had heaps. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/CategoryAttributeSearchResults.aspx?search=1&mcat=0001-0268-&sidebar=0&5=&14=&18=0&18=0&24=0&24=0&searchregion=100&15=trueno good luck.

kelsosmith1989:  Sort of. The Japanese Sprinter Trueno (Pop up headlights, like the US Corolla) and and Corolla Levin (Fixed headlights) are on the same chassis as the USDM Corolla. The Trueno name was never used on any US cars. Performance wise, the US Crorlla is lacking to the JDM models. The best engine in the Sprinter Trueno was a 4A-GEU, making 140 HP, the US market has a 4A-GE, tuned to California emissions spec, made 100 hp. So no, you won't get the same performance just by super glueing 'Trueno' to the front

Neil K:  Yes Actually the Corolla was called trueno for this model only (AE86 4A-GE) It was sold as either a two door coupe or three dorr hatch between 1983-1987
