ticking sound coming from front wheel on 03 malibu, cv joint?
I have an 03 malibu and I have this ticking sound coming from the front wheel area. If I didn't know better, it sounds like a stone or something bouncing around in my hubcap, but louder. it sounds like it goes away at about 45 mph, and i'm not noticing any sounds over that speed. It doesn't sound like I'm getting any "growling" sounds that are usually associated with bearings though. The boots on the CV joint look good, and the car just has 50,000 miles on it. Any help is appreciative! I've checked the tires, and there's no stones there, I've also pulled the hubcaps, cuz it did sound like something in there, to no avail. I rotated the tires front to back, and it's still there. It seems that it goes away when it's very cold out. It's a defenite tick tick tick sound. it gets a little louder when making a right turn, but it's still there when I'm going straight. It seems to almost go away when making a left turn.

James B:  Does sound like a CV joint, may be rock or something in tread of tire hard to tell without seeing car.

D42D:  sounds like a either a brake caliper is a little loose or a cv joint going bad. sounds does not go away at 45 is just ticking so fast and road noise makes it seem to go away
