Why does a tick, ticking sound occur (five or six ticks) when i turn on the fan in my ford focus?
Every time i turn on my fan in my ford focus (99) a ticking sound happens for a short period (5 or 6 times) then goes. What is this please?

druid:  <>You were a bit light on the info here, so I will have to make a number of assumptions. First, I assume you are talking about the heater/AC fan? Second, when you turn it on the fan does not run right away but ticks-ticks a few times then starts running? I assume you've had the car for a while and this is something different than it doing before? If all the above are true assumptions, then it sounds like the fan might be sticking, possibly due to dirt or a foreign object in ductwork. You could try blowing the ductwork out with a compressor, but if it keeps up, you might end up having to replace the fan, which could be a pricey job, since it usually entails taking the dashboard apart.

mdcbert:  just dust or a big leaf, or a piece of paper got sucked into your cars HVAC system, and lodged near your fan blades. Hey, it`s 8 years old! Stuff like this happens to old cars... Dont worry about it.

loujitsu1978:  hard to diagnose.....without more info fan like the cabin fan? when it started hot or cold engine more descriptive sound metallic nature or electric any smells consistently makes the sound there are 10x more options that come into play.... a round about diagnoses is the fan is going out or there is something in there

Lew W:  It might be the bearings in the blower motor or debris in the housing around it. Have it checked at a relibale shop.

chunky:  sounds like something is inside the fan housing, maybe a leaf or twig.
