Belt tensioner is seized, because of this it has damaged the alternator. This is for a 2000 Chev. Cavalier, cost to repair all $695.00 plus tax. Does this sound legit? Thanks.
Hey Double 17,
Awesome, enjoy your trip!!!!!!!!!

bobweb: You could call the Chevy service department and ask to get a quote on parts and labor for installation of a new serpentine belt and tensioner and idler pulley with new alternator on your vehicle. Compare to the independent shop quote. However, if the independent is using a rebuilt alternator rather than a brand new alternator as the Chevy dealer uses, that alone could be $150 more in dealer costs.

Sandi A: sounds too high to me. An alternator usually isn't that much and the labor to install one shouldn't be more than 1-2 hours which runs about 75-80 an hour. You might want to call a parts place and price an alternator for your car, that should give you a better idea.

double1702: WSound about right but may be alittle high. I know in South Central Texas labor is $100.00 per hour and a good name brand (not from a box store) alternator cost some hard cash.
So might want to ask around first.
By the way going to Disney world this April.

mister ss: sounds awfully high to me seeing a tensioner for my car was $30 and if you get a rebuilt alternator thats around $50 or $60 and the serpentine belt is about $30 so the rest of that price is labor, I would do some checking around on prices from other mechanics first.

nascarmike4870: The tensioner on this car is large with alot of drilled and tapped holes for acessories. The labor is probably what is the most of the bill. Alt, is about $200, belt $40,tensioner$100.
