Why does my 02 Mustang have a ticking sound from the engine on cold starts?
When I start up my Mustang after it's been sitting, the engine makes a ticking or clicking sound that comes from the drivers side of the engine. It goes away after about a minute or two of ideling or sooner if I rev the engine. It's a 3.8 V6. Is this a potentaly serious problem or is it normal?
Answers:
Lover not a Fighter: That is the sound of cold and dry engine (no oil) - and the valves rubbing dry.
DON'T rev the engine while it is making that noise. It make the oil circulate faster - BUT also your engine is clashing harder while dry.

It is NOT a serious problem. Just don't drive till the sound goes away.
Good Luck...
