StajahRee: Why not? I mean, he came all the way to your house... for free.
ADDITION: Just because it's part of the job, & not expected, doesn't mean it's not nice. You could turn his day around with this random act of kindness. Even if it just $5.

S1lent: Hi,
Nope. If he was any kind of repairman he wouldn't accept it. The question reminds me of the movie "My Blue Heaven" starring Steve Martin.

darmit: I would say no! He is there to try to get your business, so he should be impressing you with his product and price for repair. If the work was done by him and you were satisfied with the end result, than I would tip him.

PEACE: Usually when I go to do an estimate, It's free.
If I get the job...that alone is my reward.
I am always grateful to a bonus but in my 35 years of handymaning have never received a tip for an estimate.
If i did receive a tip, i'd love it.
I usually only tip people in life that have to clean-up after me, like waitresses, bartenders, maids and barbers.
