The ticking sound just starts and instead of drying it does that and the timer still goes down and everything but doesn't dry. Can anyone walk me through what to do, even if it means removing the front panel where the knobs are.

Somethingtotry: If the timer is working, but nothing happens when you press the start button, it could be the motor. If you hold the start button and hear a humming noise, it is likely that the motor is burned out. If you press the start button and hear nothing at all, it could be something as simple as the switch in the door that shuts off the dryer when the door is open, or the thermal switch located in the part of the dryer where the motor is. See the website below for some helpful information.

Corky R: When you press the start button and hear the clicking, does it sound like the drum is moving, or is it just silent other than the ticking?? If so, the ticking sound could be the motor running with no belt on the drum, (could be off the tensioner pulley, could have broken or just wore out). You should also be able to feel heat on the inside of the drum once you open the door, if it's making heat. If not, then there's several problems that you're not going to solve by taking off the console panel. The more likely thing you'll have to remove is the front panel with the door in it. You do that by first removing the lint filter from it's cavity and removing the two small philips head screws that are under the lid. Then you need either a small putty knife or a small screwdriver blade to insert in the crack between the top and the front panel and find the two spring clips that hold it down. Once you find them just pry up near each one and the top should pop up. When you have the top up, you should be able to see if the belt is held tightly in place where it is or is it loose and can be moved around easily??? If it was running when you tried to start it before taking the front off the belt should be ok, which means there could be a problem with one of the support rollers on the rear bulkhead. If you can get this far and are still interested in further digging, email me and I'll try to walk you through the procedure. It's quite a bit more than I want to do here.
