What would cause the ticking sound when brakes applied? We had new pads and drums installed.

rick b: You may have had the pads and shoes installed, BUT did you have the drums and rotors turned?
If not, what is happening is the the rotors do warp over time and heat and it causes the pads to "shift" up and down when brakeing
Also if the anti rattle clips where not installed on the pads this could cause the problem ( if they come that way )
And if the drums where turned with a to course of cut the drums would have ended up threaded like a record and when brakeing the threading will pull the shoes way from the backing plate and will snap back
