Is it rude to question a car repair estimate?
When a car repair shop calls and gives me an estimate to fix my car, is it rude to question the charges, e.g. "Gee, you want HOW MUCH for that part?, I can get it for much less at the local auto parts store". Does that just piss them off, and affect the quality of work?

I recently had my car appraised over the damage that was done to my car from a collision. The Ins. company will mail me a check for the total cost of the reapir submitted from their estimator. I haven't had any estimates done from any repair shops. Would the estimate go up or down depending on whether it was an insurance claim or not? Is it normal for a car repair shop to ask a customer to drop off a car to get an estimate of repairs? They told me once I drop it off, they will call me at that same day for an estimate. Hi everyone. I recently bought a brand new Lexus and a week later it got keyed (small mark but it was pretty deep). I took my car to three shops and got three different totally different estimates: $250, $460, and $500. I just rented a house and someone had come in and cut out all the copper piping to everything in the house. We have no piping or water running to anything in our house. They cut everything out to the faucets in the bathroom and all the faucets in the kitchen. How much will it cost for my furnace to be repaired? I am thinking that the blower motor died or perhaps maybe a broken belt (?)
